Interesting ia! Factoids:

Founded on May 7th, 2003

Co-Founders are both fathers of twins

They met at a dinner/play date for the kids.

First invention was a play system made out of cardboard boxes

To learn more about licensing products, Keith and Kyle decided to manufacture a line of fishing flies called The Complete Hatch.

After spending the better part of a year in manufacturing, they both realized licensing their ideas was the way to go.

Keith is a talented illustrator and collects model trains.

Kyle loves fly fishing and collects dead bird skins.

Telling people you are an "inventor" draws enthusiastic responses. (Try it some time!)

Coming up with great ideas is easy. Developing those ideas into something salable is hard and time-consuming.

About Us

Founding Partner Biographies

Kyle Shannon kyle@inventionasylum.com

“If there is a qualification for inventing a bottomless pit of youthful curiosity. It was that curiosity that sucked me into the Internet so early.” In 1995, Kyle co-founded online marketing firm AGENCY.COM with Time Inc. executive Chan Suh.

At its peak, AGENCY.COM had annual revenues of more than $200 million, 2000+ employees and offices in the US, Europe and Asia. AGENCY.COM went public in 1999 and was sold in 2001 in a transaction which included Omnicom, one of the world’s largest advertising holding companies. AGENCY.COM continues as one of the largest interactive agencies to this day.

Kyle’s successful entrepreneurial track record also includes: founding New Voice Theatre Company in NYC; founding the non-profit organization the World Wide Web Artists Consortium (WWWAC.org); co-creating the first online art & culture magazine, Urban Desires (desires.com); and writing or co-writing seven feature screenplays including the recently optioned "Amazombies!"

“I’ve never thought of myself as an inventor yet if I look back, my childhood is filled with endless exploration & entrepreneurialism; figurng out how to catch and sell snapping turtles, or setting up a snack stand in the middle of the back nine of the local golf course. Didn’t seem to matter what it was, I was always inventing something.

“Things don’t seem all that different these days. It’s the exploration that turns me on. If you’re passionate about your pursuits, the results seem to take care of themselves. The successes and failures are bigger than when I was a kid, but the thing I really love is all that I learn for the next spin around the block.”
Kyle received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in performance from Penn State University in 1987.

Keith Milone keith@inventionasylum.com

Visualize it. Build it. Tear it down. Then build it again, but better. Now sell it. I’ve always lived my life inventing, creating and building. “Good” is not good enough. I want “Great”. Solve a problem and you’re onto an idea. Refine and build that idea with passion and you’ve got something to show the world.

Keith is an architect, who in his earlier career as a principal in his firm, Skyline Architects and Designers, won several Interior Design recognition awards and whose work has been published in multiple trade magazines.

After closing his NYC office, Keith was recruited by Citibank and climbed up the corporate ladder from Senior Project Manager and Regional Space Planner to become Director of Operations for Citibank’s Portfolio & Occupancy Management Group. Grabbing an opportunity, Keith left Citibank to became a Senior Team Leader, managing nationwide commercial real estate transactions for General Electric Capital’s Card Services.

Keith earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University after receiving an Associates degree in Architectural Technology from Alfred State College in New York.
